Derek Veilleux

Derek Veilleux is a Senior Principal and Board Chair at SMRT, bringing more than 25 years of experience in healthcare architecture and a deep understanding of how the built environment supports clinical performance, operational efficiency, and patient care.

For more than a decade, Derek led SMRT’s Health and Wellness practice, guiding the firm’s work across acute care, ambulatory care, behavioral health, and environments for aging. During that time, he built a practice grounded in data-driven design, close client collaboration, and a consistent focus on long-term facility performance. His work is defined by an ability to translate complex operational and regulatory challenges into environments that align with each organization’s culture, goals, and care delivery model.

In his role as Board Chair, Derek directs his focus toward firm-wide strategic priorities while continuing to serve as a senior resource to the Health and Wellness practice and its clients.
